Following an ethical internet marketing plan is critical to establishing your business on a strong foundation. Internet marketing strategies are essential to ensuring your products or services get the attention they need. In addition, ethical strategies are equally if not more important.

In this article, we will discuss some important concepts that are important to know prior to developing a strong ethical internet marketing plan. The following articles will each explore three of the seven steps to planning a strategy. Our case study business for this series will be Seedles. That may sound cheesy, but you’ll get my point soon.

Getting Past the Fear

If you do an online search for internet marketing or e-marketing, I’m sure you may be surprised at the number of results. Internet marketing is a highly competitive business with plenty of gurus and experts. Just because John the Internet Marketer has been internet marketing since 1964 doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. The most important things to remember are these:

  • Usually, right when you’re ready to quit, your breakthrough is around the corner.
  • This doesn’t happen overnight, or in the morning.
  • Keep your nose to the grindstone. It’s called a grindstone for a reason. Keep going at it.
  • It takes time to discover what works for you, your product and many other things that impact your business.

The bottom line is this – stay at it and it will pay off. John the Internet Marketer from 1964 had to do it, so will you. Get past the fear because only fear will prevent you from success.

Understand What Marketing is and is Not

Marketing is a strategic process that involves implementation and control. The process creates an opportunity for buyers and sellers to come together. Advertising is the announcement of a message that causes a targeted audience to take a specific action, hopefully purchasing, delivered via a medium (or media). Marketing is not advertising, but these two components are dependent upon each other.

We are bombarded daily by these messages. One important thing to remember is how many messages we see versus how many companies we purchase from. Here enters the brand.

How Your Brand Influences Your Success

Developing a powerful, positive and ethical brand is far more important and effective than spreading a message quick and dirty. If you are a reputation conscience individual, then developing a strong foundation for your brand will be an attractive alternative to selling a product just to get the hard earned cash of your audience.

Brand development may seem a difficult task. It’s really not that hard when integrated with e-marketing methods. Below you will find a few of these strategies. We will further explore them in upcoming articles in this series.

  • Branded sponsorship
  • Video advertisements
  • Display advertisements
  • Paid keyword searches

Ethical Marketing Considerations

Creating an ethical marketing campaign is a serious issue. If you’re reading this, chances are you have looked for opportunities to make supplemental income. Chances are you’ve run across sales pages that market overnight remedies to your financial problems. Chances could even be you’ve been a victim of false claims.

While advertising is not the focus of this article, I think it important to provide information about how sales letters are developed. In these letters, an individual will play to the emotion of their audience. The sales letters you run across have a proven formula. It’s all in how you use it. The following lists each of the ten parts of the formula:

  • Headline
  • Problem
  • Solution
  • Credibility
  • Benefits
  • Testimonials
  • Guarantee
  • Limited time
  • The Call to Action

This is the general structure of sales letters. The problem is that some internet marketers promote lousy products. Products that play on a person’s dire financial situation and deliver ZERO for the little money they had in the first place. It’s my job to help you eliminate unethical marketing practices so that you can build a powerful and trustworthy brand.

In the next article, we will detail the following steps in the planning process:

  • Analysis
  • Strategic Planning
  • Objectives

  24. Blogging is about a lot more than just commenting on websites now, isn’t it? That’s right. Blogs are now used for all sorts of things, most commonly personal online journals, technical newsletters, or political discussions. Often they do include links to other websites, and comments about them, but this is no longer required. Blog entries are just as likely to refer to items in the news, or developments in the technical world, or events in the blogger’s life, or whatever else the blogger feels like writing about.

  25. @Marco I know what your mean. In the current economy its difficult to find a job that pays good enough to live on and is consistent. I have discovered that if you just work hard and are consistent you can go places . Look at the writer of this page , they are oviously hard working and have just been consistent over time and are now enjoying at least what would appear as somewhat of a success. I would encourage everyone to just keep hustling and moving forward.

  26. Topsoil, that’s a great comment! Very encouraging.

  27. Nice one! If I could write like this I would be well happpy. The more I read articles of such quality as this (which is rare), the more I think there might be a future for the Net. Keep it up, as it were.

  33. 97% of people attempting to break into the Internet Marketing world end up buying product after product and then eventually give up due to “failure”. The other half join companies that never really allow them to generate the results that they can get from self-branding. Running a business online can be really daunting at times and even I felt at some stage that it wasn’t worth the wait.

  56. Hey, I just hopped over to your site via StumbleUpon. Not somthing I would normally read, but I liked your thoughts none the less. Thanks for making something worth reading.

  57. One internet marketing tool you need is a domain name. A domain name is your website address and you should register your own domain (instead of allowing your web designer to do it) so that you have complete control and ownership of that name. Don’t think just because someone builds you a website, the website address name is yours – it’s not! The fact is whoever registers the name, has control of it – their name is on the registrars list. Don’t allow anyone to have control over your website address, because if the relationship between you and them turns sour, then you risk the chance of them uploading another website (not related to your business) to that domain.

  58. It is great to ultimately find a web page in which the blogger understands what they are talking about.

  59. Most of the people still think that joining Affiliate Marketing is a nothing more than waste of time. The claims made by many make money online Gurus that anyone can in few simple steps make hundred of thousand of dollars each month were nothing but a sales pitch for their products.
